Psoriasis is already hard enough to deal with since it involves the immune system attacking healthy skin cells by mistake. If you have psoriasis, you know that it can show up anywhere on your body – including around your eyes. This can be a tricky area to treat, as the skin around your eyes is delicate and sensitive.
In this blog post, we’ll discuss what psoriasis on eyelid is, what the symptoms are, and what you can do to manage the symptoms. Keep reading to learn more!
Psoriasis on eyelids is a form of psoriasis that appears as a rash around the eyes. It usually manifests as red, scaly patches that can be itchy, painful, and unsightly. If you have psoriasis on your eyelid, you may also experience burning, stinging, or tearing. In severe cases, psoriasis on eyelids can cause cracked skin, swelling, and crusting.
The best way to prevent psoriasis from developing around the eyes is to manage the condition overall. This means keeping your skin moisturized, avoiding triggers like stress and dry air, and staying away from harsh chemicals and irritants. Additionally, if you already have psoriasis on other parts of your body, be sure to take extra care when applying makeup or skincare products around your eyes. Use gentle products specifically designed for sensitive skin, and avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area too harshly.
Psoriasis around the eyes can cause a number of complications, both short- and long-term. Short-term complications include irritation, redness, and swelling. Long-term complications include eye damage, vision problems, and even blindness. Although psoriasis itself is not the cause of possible eye damage, the complications stemming from psoriasis can impact vision and damage sensitive parts of the eyes. In extreme cases, surgery may be required to remove damaged tissue.
If you have psoriasis around your eyes, it’s important to see a doctor or dermatologist so that they can properly assess your condition and recommend treatment options.
Any rash in the face might cause extreme emotional reactions. In some cases, people don’t leave the house, quit jobs, etc. all because of stress, shame, and a feeling that they are not clean / contiguous (obviously not true). Having said that, the side effects from medical drugs such as steroids are emphasized in the face area – i.e. thinning of the skin, topical steroid withdrawal (TSW), etc.
You might think there’s a one-size fits all answer to this question, but the truth is every person has their own unique situation. However, in general, making lifestyle changes such as eating a healthier diet, getting more exercise, and reducing stress can help improve eyelid psoriasis symptoms. In some cases, these changes may even help reduce or eliminate the condition altogether. If you have psoriasis around your eyes, talk to your doctor or dermatologist about lifestyle changes that may help improve your symptoms.
One of the most important things you can do for psoriasis around your eyes is to keep your skin hydrated. This means drinking plenty of water and using a gentle moisturizer on a daily basis. When choosing a moisturizer, be sure to select one that is free of fragrances, dyes, and other harsh chemicals that could irritate your skin further.
Apply a moisturizer generously to the areas of your face affected by psoriasis, and be sure to reapply throughout the day as needed. This will help to soothe dry, irritated skin and prevent flare-ups.

Another thing you can do to manage psoriasis around your eyes is to protect your skin from irritants. This means avoiding things like makeup, perfumes, creams, or anything else that could potentially aggravate your condition. If you must wear makeup, be sure to choose products that are non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic so as not to clog your pores or trigger an allergic reaction.
When you have psoriasis, it’s important to use a gentle cleanser on your face to avoid further irritating the skin. Look for a cleanser that is designed for sensitive skin and free of harsh chemicals or fragrances. You should also avoid using hot water when cleansing your face, as this can dry out the skin and make symptoms worse. Instead, use cold water and rinse gently.
It’s important to get plenty of rest when you have psoriasis around your eyes because stress can make symptoms worse. aim to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night and try to stick to a regular sleep schedule as much as possible. If you find it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep through the night, consider speaking with a doctor about possible solutions such as therapy or medication.
Wash your face and eyelids with cold water and mild, doctor-approved soap twice a day to help remove any irritants that might be exacerbating your symptoms. Be sure to gently pat your eyelids dry after washing them – rubbing can make symptoms worse.
If your eyelids are swollen and inflamed, applying cool compresses can help soothe discomfort and itchiness. To make a compress, soak a clean cloth in cold water, then apply it to your eyelids for five to 10 minutes at a time. Repeat the procedure several times as needed. Just be sure to use a new cloth each time to avoid reintroducing irritants to the area.
It can be tempting to rub your eyes when they’re itchy and inflamed, but this will only aggravate psoriasis around the eyes and make symptoms worse. If you have psoriasis around your eyes, it’s important to avoid rubbing or scratching the area.
If you find yourself wanting to rub, try to distract yourself by doing something else with your hands instead. Reading or working on a puzzle can help take your mind off the itchiness and give your hands something else to do.
In case you really can’t resist rubbing your eyes and wiping away any discharge, be sure to do so gently with a soft cloth.
Sunglasses aren’t just for looking good – they also serve an important function in protecting your eyes from UV rays. Psoriasis can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so it’s important to wear sunglasses when outdoors to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Sunglasses will also help prevent any discharge from irritating your eyes further.
Stress can aggravate symptoms of psoriasis, so it’s important to find ways to manage stress in your life. Consider yoga, meditation, or exercise as ways to reduce stress levels and keep flare-ups at bay.
